People of the Earth [Hylian, Gerudo, Sheikah, Human]

Hylian

Yes, according to legend, Hyrule was made by the Hylians, who, as we all know, are the closest race to the gods...truth be told, there's also a theory saying that in ancient times there was a race even closer to the gods than the Hylia people, and THEY created it. And they, simultaneously with the birth of the Hylia people, created a new capital, a capital that floated in the heavens.

- Shad

AN OVERVIEW

Overview:

Also known as Hylia people, they are the original race of Hyrule. The legends said that Hylians were created by the Goddesses themselves.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

A typical Hylian ressembles a human except from long pointy ears. They stand between 5 and 6 feet. Hylian skin colours range from nearly black to very pale. Hair are, in most cases, various shades of blonde, red, brown and black, hair grows gray and white about middle age. Exotic hues are sparse. Their eyes can very to blue or blue-grey to brown or black tones. Blue eyes are more common in a full-blooded Hylian lineage.

A full-blooded Hylian will likely have ears more pointy : they were supposedly to help them hear messages from the Gods. With time, this ability has slow disappeared and few lineage of full blooded Hylians still exist.

Hylians have quite an extended life-span and can have unique psychic abilities.

In the early Hyrule's history, Hylians were widespread and dominant however they're becoming rarer with time, slowly replaced by humans.

It is said that old Hylian communities have been hidden for centuries but no one has ever heard of their existence.

SOCIETY

Hylians are ruled by monarchy. Their society is very organised and their kingdom powerful through years of conquests and exchanges with other races. Every adult is expected to have a profession that contributes to their society as a whole. Most Hylian have been given a military training.

Hyrule Castle Town is the most populous settlement in Hyrule. It's a trading hub for all Hylian allies and it's really common to find Zora people or Goron people inside the city.

The Hyrulean Royal Family lives inside Hyrule Castle. The power is hereditary transmitted. The powerful influence of the Royal family over Hyrule led many Hylians to believe being the rightful rules of not only their race but all of the Hyrulean continent.

RELIGION

Hylia Cult
Hylia, or the White Goddess, is the true ancestor of the Royal Family of Hyrule and the mother of all Hylian. For Hylian nobility not worshipping Hylia is rare. Statues representing Her are spread all over Hyrule.

Three Goddesses Cult
The Three Goddesses are the creators of Hyrule by the side of Hylia, leaving the mighty Triforce behind them. Throughout Hyrule, it's common to come across their symbols and representation. Some races, like the Zora people, have taken their symbols as a emblem.

Worshipping Din, Nayru or Farore is not as common as the Hylia Cult. Inside the magical community, worshipping the Goddess close to their elemental alignment is largely spread. (See : Witch)

HYLIAN TRAITS

Alignment : It can vary but Hylians have a slight tendency towards Lawful Good. However they're military inclined.
Languages : They speak, write and read Common (Hyrulean).
Abilities : Psychic powers and magic inclined.

GERUDO

Gerudo, a resilient desert flower facing the sun's gaze. Gerudo grows brillant, while others fade. We stand vigilant in the desert sun. We are brillant, over everyone.

Vigilant in the sun, growing brillant. Gerudo, never outdone.

Gerudo, brillant in the sun.

AN OVERVIEW

Overview:

People of the desert, they are a very proud community which has been known for their thefts and fiercefulness for a long time. Now, the doors of the desert are opened and the Gerudo Fortress has been abandonned as a sign of peace.

Gerudo are all women. Every 100 years, a male Gerudo is born and becomes king.

They are impressively tall, their skin is usually dark due to their environment. Their hair is of different shades of ginger, commonly flat and long, they pull it up in a ponytail. Some Gerudo adourned short hair or curled hair.

Their facial traits are distinctive : pointed ears - although less than Hylians -, they also have a long and thin nose and fournished lips. Almost every Gerudo use jewelry and wear colourful make up. Their eyes can go from dark brown to green to golden.

SOCIETY

Gerudos are ruled by a Queen or a King when a male child is born. Although some Gerudo women have important roles inside their community and are respected and listened to.

Decision making seems to be mostly popular until the ruler gives their final decision.

Gerudos are very competitive and have a bunch of more or less safe sports that everyone can try. The Gerudo Gym is also an old instution for everyone that wish to train hard.

Their economy is based on trade. Even though the Gerudo community collected riches by robbing and fighting other people in the past, they now rely on trading their goods with the other Hyrulean communites. They sell mainly meat, herbs and mushrooms that they collect on the moutains and fruits. The Gerudo massage sessions have become quite famous throughout Hyrule and many people come into the Gerudo city to relax or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Kara Kara Oasis.

Yet, Gerudos don't allow any male inside their city whatever their species may be. Some man then turns to more, interesting manners to get inside the Gerudo town.

RELIGION

Most Gerudo have interest in religion. Though they used to venerate some Gods and also Gerudos known for their strength.

The Great Goddess Cult
The Great Goddess once has a huge temple built deep in the desert where Gerudos would journey. It was a central place inside the Gerudo community. Now the temple has disappear and it seems that no one pray for the forgotten Goddess anymore.

Gerudo Pantheon
The Gerudo Pantheon is quite elaborated. Now, like the Great Goddess Cult, no one really prays for these lost deities. The most important traces of these Pantheon is at the North of the desert where 7 huges statues of Goddess stand. They are said to be heroines of the past that guard and protect the Gerudo land. Maybe some old Gerudo souls would be able to share the tales of the old Gods. A rumour says that an old forgotten heroine lays somewhere in the mountains.

Hylia Cult
Inside the Gerudo town, a Hylia statue has been placed. Although the Gerudo community doesn't really pray for Her, a lot of travelers come to pray in front of the little altar. Gerudo tend to avoid it.
